About Heather Ashley
Dance captured Heather in 2005, and it hasn’t let go since. She has traveled around the United States and internationally performing and taking classes from world-renowned instructors. Dance has transformed Heather’s life, and she fully believes in Martha Graham’s claim that, “Dance is the hidden language of the soul.” Every step, every move has an intention, and with that intention forms a feeling and experience that Heather sends to the audience. With that feeling and experience, Heather takes her audience on a journey of the soul. In addition to bellydance, she also has experience in ballet, jazz, ballroom dancing, hula hooping, yoga, and hip hop.
Heather performs regularly around the state of Michigan. She has years of experience performing in restaurants and at festivals. She has also performed at the King Tut exhibit in Grand Rapids at the Grand Rapids Museum. She does birthday parties, weddings, and anniversary parties. She was a part of the Holland Street Performance Series for 3 years in a row.
Heather has been teaching since 2008. She has been commissioned to choreograph at BellyDance Grand Rapids for 6 years. She has a wealth of knowledge with props including zills, cane, candles, veils, Isis wings, feather fans, swords, and fan veils. She has also taught classes on Egyptian Dance technique and Tribal technique. Not only has she taught choreography and technique classes, she has also taught education and improvisational classes.
Heather has professional training with highly regarded and internationally recognized dancers and instructors such as Hossam and Serena Ramzy, Yasmina Ramzy, Asi Haskal, Asmahan, Simona Minishin, Simona Guzman, Ruby Beh, Irina Akulenko, Sharon Kihara, Tarik Sultan, Amanda Rose, Zoe Jakes and Rachel Brice, among others.
